Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about Roadside Relic.

General Questions

What is a "Roadside Relic?"
A roadside relic is a forgotten sign, an abandoned gas station, remnants of an old schoolhouse… maybe the lone, winding path from a long-forgotten railroad track. This website allows you to share hare your secret treasure with the world. Capture it before it disappears forever.

When did this website launch?
RoadsideRelic.com officially launched to the public in March 2008.

How do I report offensive material?
You can report photos you find offensive by emailing support@roadsiderelic.com. Roadside Relic will investigate the claims. Anyone posting offensive material to their account will be suspended from the site.

My Account

Do I need an account to browse the site?
No, the photos posted on the site are available for everyone to view.

Do I have to pay a fee to create and maintain an account?
No. Roadside Relic is funded both independently and through online advertising.

What are the benefits of creating a Roadside Relic account?
As a member of Roadside Relic, you can upload photos to your account, give your photos titles and descriptions, and categorize your photos into separate subfolders for better organization. You can also rate and comment on other users' photos.

How do I create an account? How do I sign in to my account?
New users can create an account and exising users can sign in to their account on the Sign In/Sign Up page.

What is the Member Home?
The Member Home is your main hub once you've signed in to your account. The Member Home is the first page you see after you Sign In; if you are already signed in and need to access your Member Home, click Member Home at the top of the page. From the Member Home, you can edit your personal profile, create new albums and add photos. You can also edit an existing photo's information or delete photos or albums.

How do I add a photo to my account?
In the Member Home, your photo albums will appear in the section below your profile photo and information (if you have already uploaded photos). All photos must be organized into photo albums, or folders. To create an album, locate the input box next to "Create a New Album," give your new album a name ("Trains," "Signs" or "Bridges," for example), and click Create. If you have already created albums, click Upload Photos, choose a folder where you'd like to upload your photo, enter information about the photo and choose the photo by clicking Choose File (JPEG file format only). Click Upload to add your photo to the site. You'll then be directed to the album in which you uploaded the photo, where you may add more photos to this album. Your photo will be available for viewing on the site immediately.

I already have folders created. How to I add a photo to a specific folder?
In the Member Home, your photo albums will appear in the section below your profile picture. Locate the album that you want to add a photo to and click Upload To.

How do I edit a photo's information?
In the Member Home, locate the photo album that contains the photo that you wish to edit, and click the album's thumbnail, click the album's title, or click View to see the contents of the album. Locate the photo that you'd like to edit, and click Edit Info.

How do I delete a photo?
In the Member Home, locate the photo album that contains the photo that you wish to delete, and click the album's thumbnail, click the album's title, or click View to see the contents of the album. Locate the photo that you'd like to delete, and click Delete. Please note that a photo cannot be retrieved after you confirm that it should be deleted.

How do I delete an entire album?
In the Member Home, locate the photo album that contains the photo that you wish to delete, and click Delete Album.

What is an "Album Cover?"
An Album Cover is the default image from each album that represents all of the photos of the entire album. Think of the album cover as the cover of an actual photo album. The Album Cover makes it easier to locate the album you're looking for, whether you're editing within your own account, or viewing albums created by other users.

How to I change my Album Cover?
In the Member Home, your photo albums will appear in the section below your profile picture. To change the cover of an album, click into an album under your album list in your Member Home (you can click the thumbnail or "No Image Available," the album's title in green, or View). Once you are inside of an album, you may select that album's default image, or Album Cover, by clicking Set as album cover.

I forgot my password. How can I retrieve this information?
Submit a "Forgot Password" request and we will send a password reminder to the email address you used to sign up for the account.

What are "tags?" How do I add them to my photos?
"Tags" (short for "metatags") are descriptive words are applied to photos during the upload process. Tags make it easier for other users to find your photos through the site search. The more descriptive your tags, the better the chances of other users finding your photos.

Can I make a photo private, or only viewable by a select group of people?
No photo on the site is private, and your photos are viewable by everyone.

How do I cancel my account?
You may cancel your account by sending a request to support@roadsiderelic.com. We will delete your account, including all of your photos, as soon as possible.
